What is image consulting?
Once you become an image consultant, you’ll be helping people to
get more from life because they’ll have the self-esteem and confidence
to go forward in the most positive way.
You’ll be able to help people to create a consistent image that is congruent with their needs, goals and desires. As everyone is unique, you’ll be constantly looking for cues regarding the way your clients may wish to express themselves through their clothes, accessories, grooming and body language.
One of the most satisfying aspects of being an image consultant is helping create positive, visible change for your clients. The feedback they receive from friends, colleagues and family reinforces the advice you have given, which, in turn, encourages them to take further positive steps. You will be proud of your role in your client’s upward spiral of personal development.
Are you looking for a satisfying career with flexibility?
If you’re looking for a career that is both satisfying and flexible, image consulting could be for you. One of the greatest benefits is flexibility. You choose the amount of time you devote to your consultancy and you choose the clientele that’s suits your career direction.
The perfect way to start your own business
If you have ongoing work and/or personal commitments, image consulting is a viable way of easing into your own business. Many consultants build up to operating on a full-time basis as demand for their services grow. You can work full-time or part-time, from home, or in commercial premises such as an office or studio. You may even wish to make arrangements with a clothing store or hair and beauty salon to provide services to their customers and clients. Many corporations also provide opportunities to work in-house.
There are many ways you can build your business
For qualified image consultants there are ample opportunities to develop businesses catering to niche markets.
For example, you may wish to focus on job seekers, or you might prefer to cater to high-level corporates who are actively developing their careers. Or you may wish to do both. Some consultants choose to focus on particular age groups and genders. The wonderful thing is that you have the freedom to choose your own path.
Is Image Consulting a career for you?
Being an image consultant is a rewarding and viable career option.
But it’s not a career for everyone.
The best and most successful image consultants are:
- Genuinely interested in people
- Committed to helping people win in their working and personal lives
- Good at managing their own image
- Able to see beyond their own personal style preferences
- Open to learning
- Professional and service-oriented
- Excellent in their interpersonal communication.
